The signs are getting bigger as the day is drawing nearer. 2020 is the year long awaited by all to express Galway’s diverse and rich culture across Europe. This is a chance to highlights Galway’s features in a new light. A chance for artists to show their potential, musicians to demonstrate their talents and communities to come together.

No matter what kind of event you’re looking for in Galway, you’re bound to have an exciting time. Galway has such a diverse, yet traditional culture filled with creative, fun communities who are proud of where they’re from! Galway is proudly known as Ireland’s “Cultural Heart” due to its reputation for Irish culture music, art, dance and language traditions.

52 Projects

52 Projects was announced in May 2018 and kicked off the exciting programmes that are set to take place for the following 12 months. All towns within Galway will be involved including Gort, Loughrea, Portumna, Ballinasloe, Athenry, Kinvara, Oranmore and more. It includes various artforms and entertainment including night-time garden walk, a soccer tournament working with the homeless community, an ironwork festival, a digital programme known as Future Landscapes and the world’s biggest temporary sculpture from waste. Shot by the Sea

One upcoming event is a Shot by the Seawhich is a film challenge, taking place in April in Salthill. We can look forward to participants submissions of 5-minute short films that were created on the Galway Atlantic Coast to express the beautiful coastlines located on the Galway region. A gala event will take place for this and awards will be presented on the night. Learn more. 
 

Future Landscapes 

Another exciting event coming up is a four-week digital programme known as Future Landscapes. This was created in conjunction with NUI Galway as part of Galway 2020’s digital programme. The “programme will focus on enhancing physical and social landscapes through technology and exploring the potentials of Mixed Reality (MR).” It takes place from 6th – 31st May 2019 and is aimed at anyone involved in creative projects. Volunteers Wanted - Become a Wavemaker! 

This, and a great deal more can be expected in Galway 2020. We’re so lucky to have the chance to spread awareness of the beautiful city and county that is Galway to Europe.
