The green team in the Connacht Hotel are once again taking action to help empowers visitors to be able choose “Greener” hospitality. We are working with environmental charity “Hometree”, a registered charity that plants a native Irish trees, and for as little as 50 cent per night guests this summer can offset their carbon footprint.

The Travel & Hospitality Award winners have been released and The Connacht Hotel is proud to announce that it has been awarded Family Friendly Hotel of the Year in the 2021 European Travel Awards programme.

While this year has been the toughest the travel industry has ever faced, the judges endeavoured to recognise those who deserve praise and to promote the hard work of tenacious travel businesses. Recipients of Travel & Hospitality awards in 2021 were scrupulously selected based on the aggregation of reviews from multiple third-party sources. Selected by a panel of experts who analyse submission material, review customer feedback and compare the facilities of each entrant.

For the past four years, Galway Simon Community’s annual Sleep Out has made a significant impact on homelessness prevention services throughout the county. Sadly, the event cannot take place as we know it this year, but whether you spend the night in our back gardens or bed down on the living room floor, the most important thing is that we continue to come together in solidarity to help raise desperately needed funds and awareness in support of those facing homelessness.

The Galway International Oyster & Seafood Festival – Seafood Trail

Since 1954 the Galway International Oyster & Seafood Festival celebrates a timeless, unchanging Irish tradition and treasure, and the ongoing pleasure given by those little heroes in a half shell and 2020 is no different.

For almost twenty five years now Active Fitness gym and leisure centre has been providing a place for people at the Connacht Hotel and the entire neighbourhood to exercise and unwind, even before it went by its name.
Galway’s Connacht Hotel first opened its gym and leisure centre in 1995 after a £1.8 million investment in a 20 metre swimming pool, a Therapeutic Geyser Pool, Lounger Pool, Jacuzzi, and Sauna.

Going to the gym for your fitness needs is still relatively new to Ireland, culturally speaking. Especially compared with countries like the United States and Germany where it was adopted much earlier.

Galway’s Connacht Hotel was honoured at the recent Galway Chamber Business Awards 2019, taking home the prize for their 50th anniversary campaign.

The Connacht Hotel won the award for Best Marketing Including Social and Digital Media, which is sponsored by Galway City Council, for the year long efforts which have gone into celebrating half a century of service. The Connacht was founded in 1969 as the Galway Ryan Hotel with an ethos of keeping at the forefront of what tourists were looking for in a holiday.

You can now buy the gift of Galway for that someone special in your life. The Connacht Hospitality Group have launched its fantastic Gift Card just in time for Christmas. The Group which includes some of the most popular brands in the city has a card which can be used across all of its properties, so it is ideal for Galway people and visitors to the city of the tribes alike.

The Connacht Hospitality Group has recently achieved the Failte Ireland Service Excellence Award across all its properties and is the only hospitality group in Galway to boast this accolade. In order to achieve the “Fáilte Ireland’s Accredited Service Excellence Award” a business must demonstrate that a minimum of 75% of the management and staff have completed the Fáilte Ireland Service Excellence Programme.

Race week is always a crazy time for the hospitality industry in Galway as visitors pack hotels, bars, and restaurants throughout the city for the world famed celebrations.
It was a particularly busy week for the Connacht Hospitality Group which has put on a week of incredible events that shine a spotlight on everything that makes Race week so well know; high fashion, fun guests, and good craic for all.

The Connacht Hospitality Group is a growing family business in Galway that comprises three hotels, Galway’s long running Connacht Hotel, home to the 24/7 Active Fitness Centre; the recently Forster Court Hotel; and the stylish boutique Residence Hotel on Quay street.

It’s not just the win that makes for a great Galway Races. Kieran O’Malley of the Connacht Hotel has advice on making the most of your time with the Tribes.

1. Guys, wear sunglasses, we’re not sure about the weather but with the hat designs you’ll come across, chatting to the wrong lady could cost you an eyeball.

2. Ladies, bring flats. Like the famous course, the end of the final furlong can be an uphill battle. Bring some comfy shoes to ensure you make it past the finishing post.

3. Bring a brolly. It’s Galway – at some stage the fake tan will be running faster than the horses!

As the Galway International Arts Festival winds down, we begin preparing for one of the biggest weeks of the year with the Galway Races.

And among the festivities this year is a very special event “Bubbles & Brunch at the Galway Races” in aid of local charity ACT for Meningitis, hosted by the Connacht Hotel.

The event will take place on Wednesday, 1 August, supported by a number of Galway businesses including Catwalk Model Agency, local milliners Suzie Mahony Design, Emily Jean Design and Standún, with special guest appearances.

We had two very special guests here this week, Connacht Rugby kindly brought in the Six Nations trophy and the Triple Crown.
