Simon Community

September 25, 2020

Simon Community

For the past four years, Galway Simon Community’s annual Sleep Out has made a significant impact on homelessness prevention services throughout the county. Sadly, the event cannot take place as we know it this year, but whether you spend the night in our back gardens or bed down on the living room floor, the most important thing is that we continue to come together in solidarity to help raise desperately needed funds and awareness in support of those facing homelessness.

The Galway International Oyster & Seafood Festival – Seafood Trail

Since 1954 the Galway International Oyster & Seafood Festival celebrates a timeless, unchanging Irish tradition and treasure, and the ongoing pleasure given by those little heroes in a half shell and 2020 is no different.

Missed Moments in 2020

September 01, 2020

Missed Moments in 2020? Claim them back...

That’s tough on those who celebrated special birthdays, anniversaries or family events this year. However here at the Connacht Hotel its not too late to celebrate those missed moments.

If one thing come’s out of Covid19 it is a new found appreciation for this stunning little island of ours.

Check out social media any day and you are inundated with the most amazing photos from all over the country, amazing cliffs, beautiful beaches and gorgeous greenery. It’s challenging not to be able to head off to the sun but an Irish staycation is much more than a consolation prize.

Galway Arts Festival

August 06, 2020

Galway is known as the City of the festivals and as the Galway Races have just complete their festival behind closed doors the Galway International Arts Festival have just announced a reimagined festival for the Autumn.

The team behind the arts festival are as creative as you’ll get so it was almost to be expected that somehow they would deliver and extraordinary ensemble of online and offline offerings to once again stun the culture vultures of the city.

If you are planning a Summer Staycation in Galway we've put together a list of some of the Top Things to Do this Summer in Galway

As Ireland slowly reopens to an uncertain future we can be assured of one thing that family and spending quality time with loved ones will never be taken for granted again. Over the past few months we had to depend on technology to stay in touch as we all yearned for the days when we can pack up and explore the Irish countryside.

It’s practically the same date every year and yet every year it sneaks up on us before we know it. If you forgot to call her or send a card last year or ordered a bunch of flowers just a couple of days too late then you have got some serious making up to do.

Even if you don’t fall into that category just think of all the stress you put her through in your teenage years; all the times she’s picked up the pieces when no one else could, given you advice that hadn’t even crossed your mind and done your laundry for you even when you’re a fully-fledged domesticated adult.

Mothers are amazing, there’s no denying that, but when faced with the lines of fluffy pink teddies, heart shaped candles and rose-scented bath sets that line Galway’s shop shelves year after year, the idea of Mother’s Day can be quite a nauseating one.

The team in the Connacht Hotel are once more celebrating success in the The Programme. The only Irish developed environmental certification standard for the hospitality sector.

The  awards are recognised both nationally and internationally. The accreditation and guidance allow members to achieve best practice environmental performance and empowers visitors to be able choose “Greener” hospitality businesses knowing that defined criteria are being implemented and monitored.

Congratulations to Accommodation Team who recently won the Gold Award for Accommodation at the IASI Awards. A well-deserved award for a very hardworking team at the Connacht Hotel.

Accommodation staff are the unsung heroes of the hospitality industry. A hotel is only as good as the team that it has working in it and to ensure that when guest check in that they get the best experience one of the most important functions within and hotel is the Accommodation team. The role is vital and is it great to see this hard-working department recognised for the superb work that they do.  And the Connacht Hotel accommodation team have recently received Gold in the IASI awards for the third year in a row.

As part of our recent redesign and reconfiguration of the ground floor, we have added a Barista Bar to our hotel lobby. Upon arrival through our doors, you are now greeted with a smile from expertly trained barista team.

We recognised the evolving expectations of our guests and our new Barista Bar is open from 7am during the week and from 8.30am at weekends, serving a range of specialty coffees, gourmet sandwiches and freshly baked goods.t.

Eclectic, elegant design with bespoke artwork and the playful use of colour and textures throughout the new design create a warm and welcoming space.

We’ve reconfigured the whole ground floor within the hotel to include a new coffee dock in the hotel lobby with inviting social spaces, alongside the full refurbishment of Bar Solo and Ruebens Restaurant.

For almost twenty five years now Active Fitness gym and leisure centre has been providing a place for people at the Connacht Hotel and the entire neighbourhood to exercise and unwind, even before it went by its name.
Galway’s Connacht Hotel first opened its gym and leisure centre in 1995 after a £1.8 million investment in a 20 metre swimming pool, a Therapeutic Geyser Pool, Lounger Pool, Jacuzzi, and Sauna.

Going to the gym for your fitness needs is still relatively new to Ireland, culturally speaking. Especially compared with countries like the United States and Germany where it was adopted much earlier.

Galway’s Connacht Hotel was honoured at the recent Galway Chamber Business Awards 2019, taking home the prize for their 50th anniversary campaign.

The Connacht Hotel won the award for Best Marketing Including Social and Digital Media, which is sponsored by Galway City Council, for the year long efforts which have gone into celebrating half a century of service. The Connacht was founded in 1969 as the Galway Ryan Hotel with an ethos of keeping at the forefront of what tourists were looking for in a holiday.

As part of our continued celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the Connacht Hotel, we commissioned a video to celebrate a number of our longest serving staff members. One of the fundamental elements that this hotel is built on is that it’s “The People that make the Place!”. The friendly atmosphere which we pride ourselves on here in The Connacht Hotel is down to our team and how they engage with each other and our customers.

The Connacht Hotel, one of Galway’s longest established hotels, is about to celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2019. Originally opened as the Galway Ryan Hotel in 1969 with almost 100 rooms, it was seen as a catalyst to the tourism industry in the city.

Mr Dermot Ryan, the Chairman of Ryan Tourist Holdings in 1969, is quoted as saying: “Our aim is to offer good food and first-class rooms with private bathroom suites at down to earth prices aiming at high occupancy spread over the whole year,” with the average price to stay in the hotel at that time just over a pound in old money.
