Artist Kari Kola developed his love of working with light in his native Finland, where the autumns and winters are long and very dark. Kari Kola’s Savage Beauty will illuminate  the Connemara landscape on an epic scale.

For Galway 2020, Kola and his team turn their attention to the extraordinary beauty of the Connemara mountains as he attempts to create the largest lit artwork ever made. Exploring the Galway 2020 theme of landscape, he brings the newest technology to bear on one of Ireland’s most famous locations. In a massive illumination, Kola will green the mountain range in a dazzling display of technical virtuosity that will coincide with Ireland’s St Patrick’s Day celebrations.

"Galway 2020 expects crowds of around 20,000 to flock to Joyce Country over St. Patrick’s Day weekend next year to see a light installation on the shores of Loch na Fooey (Lough Na Fuaiche)."
