National University of Ireland, Galway

The National University of Ireland Galway is located in Galway city center. It is ranked amongst the top 1% of universities in the world. Under the Presidence of James J Browne it continues to grow and provide a top class learning environment for its over seventeen thousand students.
The five Colleges of the University are:

  • College of Arts, Social Sciences and Celtic Studies
  • College of Business, Public Policy and Law
  • College of Engineering and Informatics
  • College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences
  • College of Science

The University was founded in 1845 as Queen's College, Galway, and was more recently known as University College, Galway (UCG) (Irish: Coláiste na hOllscoile, Gaillimh or COG). Alumni include the former Taoiseach and current President of Ireland, Enda Kenny and Michael D. Higgins respectively, as well as numerous other prominent politicians. Other leading figures in Irish official life to have been educated here include former Attorney General Máire Whelan and Comptroller and Auditor General Seamus McCarthy.
