Tonnta 2025 is a vibrant celebration of the Irish language and Galway's status as the country’s only bilingual city.
Taking place from January 30 to February 2, over the St. Brigid’s Day bank holiday weekend, this family-friendly festival invites everyone, regardless of fluency, to embrace the Irish language through a packed programme of events. Highlights include a free Céilí Mór with fire shows in Eyre Square on February 1, live performances from Jiggy at the Róisín Dubh, the Máirtín O’Connor Trio at the Town Hall Theatre, and Ríoghnach Connolly at An Taibhdhearc. Visitors can enjoy bilingual food and whiskey tours, an Irish language theatre commission, and a family day at Gaelscoil Mhic Amhlaigh, with iconic venues like An Taibhdhearc, Town Hall Theatre, and PorterShed a Dó hosting activities ranging from yoga and workshops to trad raves and comedy shows.
Tonnta 2025 is the perfect way to immerse yourself in Galway’s rich culture, practice your Irish, and enjoy a fun-filled weekend for all ages.
