Our Green Initiatives so far in 2019
It’s just over six months since we began or focus on turning the Connacht Hotel into a greener and more environmentally friendly business. Since then we have seen an amazing buy in from our team and countless benefits to the business The first step was to set up a Green Team with members from every department in the hotel. They were and are all tasked with making their own department more environmentally friendly as well as coming up with suggestions for the hotel in general.
We are so proud that we can show in the first 6 months of this year;
Reduced our straws by 16%
Reduced our Paper usage by 19%
Reduced our Paper cup usage by 75%
Increased our recyclable waste increased by 20%
Reduced our Gas units by 4%
Apart from saving money it has been fantastic for team moral, a number of staff members recently travelled to Renville Beach to carry out a clean up of the coastline. It was not only a very rewarding thing for all staff members to do but it was a fun way to give something back and get people from different departments working together outside of their normal routine. We have a number of other clean ups planned over the coming months.
We feel that reducing the environmental impact of our business is helping to improve our sustainability. It is an area that many staff members are passionate about and seeing their ideas put into practice is very rewarding. These are only baby steps but as time goes on we hope to continuously evolve and implement more changes for the good of the company and of the environment.
Our fantastic team are key to our success and their invaluable input, their insight and their engagement is the cornerstone of our progress with our Green Initiatives to date.
