Connacht Rugby

With Connacht Rugby's home ground "The Sportsground" just a few minutes walk from the hotel, Connacht Rugby plays a vital role in the sports community in Galway. Inviting national and international teams to Galway throughout the rugby season, it gives Galway an opportunity to don the green and support our provincial rugby team. The Greyhound Stadium

Located at The Sportsground, only a short walk from the hotel - A night at the dogs will ensure a night of fun and excitement and and is the perfect choice for an evening of fun, whether it be date night, a work night out or a hen or stag party.  Galway Greyhound Stadium have some great packages available to suit everyone: Finger Food Platters, Table Service Dining and Burger & Beverage Deals and reserved seating is available. Live music and dancing will also ensure you have a great night at the dogs!

Galwegians

Galwegians is located only a matter of yards from the hotel and is one of Connacht and Galway's leading rugby clubs with an active community of over 700 players and members. The Firsts play in the upper levels of the All Ireland League, the Womens side are amongst the leaders in Irish womens rugby, and the Youth Academy provides a well-trodden path to Connacht and Ireland caps. Galway United FC

Galway United football club has great loyal fan base (known as The Maroon Army) coming from around the city and county of Galway, also extending into south Mayo and north Clare. If you're staying at the hotel and want to experience some local soccer talent then check out the website for fixtures on upcoming seasons. Galway Races

The first racing festival held in Ballybrit was a two-day event with the first race meeting on Tuesday, 17 August 1869. The summer festival was extended to a 3-day meeting in 1959, 4 days in 1971, 5 days in 1974, 6 days in 1982 and, most recently to, 7 days in 1999. The summer festival is the highlight of the event calendar in Galway and throught the equine industry. Taking place on the last week in July, Monday - Sunday - there is something for everyone at this wonderful festival. We are delighted to sponsor the feature race on the opening day of the festival "The Connacht QR Handicap".

Astrobay

Astrobay is an all weather sports facility, and located close by the hotel in the grounds of Liam Mellows GAA Club, Ballyloughane, Renmore. The facility is open to the general public 7 days a week until 10pm, with fantastic daily rates available for guests and groups staying at The Connacht Hotel

Rusheen Bay

Located on Rusheen Bay in Barna, only 5km from the city, this outdoor activity will help you make the most of Galways beautiful shoreline. Offering a range of water sports such as windsurfing, kayaking and stand up paddleboarding for lessons and rental. They also provide a full range of activities for kids, adults, families, hen & stag parties, corporate groups and schools. Get out and enjoy Galways scenic shoreline!

Galway Golf Club

Located in the famous seaside resort of Salthill, Galway Golf Club offers the discerning visitor a Championship Standard 18 hole Parkland Course with spectacular views over Galway Bay, the Burren and Aran Islands, Other golfing facilities include putting green, short game practice area, swing room, range and driving nets whilst resident PGA Professional David Mortimer and his team are on hand to offer advice and assistance on all aspects of your visit and game. Galway Bay Golf

Athenry Golf Club

Only a short drive from the hotel in Palmerstown, Oranmore, The course is located just 5 minutes off the new M6 Dublin to Galway Motorway. "Athenry Golf Club" is a mixture of parkland and heathland built on a limestone base against the backdrop of a large forest giving excellent drainage and remaining playable all year round. The clubhouse was revamped in 2007 and has a modern bar and restaurant, proshop, meeting rooms and both ladies and gents locker rooms. There are great views of the 18th hole from the bar and restaurant. A warm welcome is extended to all visitors!

Oughterard Golf Club

Oughterard Golf Club is an 18 Hole parkland course, The club is located on the N59, the main Galway Clifden Road, approx 25 Kilometers from Galway City. A warm welcome awaits visitors. The course which is lined with mature native Irish trees, including Oak, Hazel and Birch. It is an excellent test of golf, with numerous water features, sand bunkers etc. that are strategically placed to protect the par of the course. Play golf and enjoy the restaurant and bar facilities, visitors are always welcome!

Bearna Golf Club

Located at the gateway to Connemara in the Gaeltacht, with commanding views of Galway Bay, the Burren and the Aran Islands, this West of Ireland golf course is only five miles from Galway city. Built on 250 acres of Connemara moorland the course measures approximately 6900 yards with water coming into play at 13 holes. The design has resulted in generously proportioned fairways, many elevated tee boxes and some splendid carries. Great care has been taken to construct extra large greens with subtle burrows that will test even the best golfer. The final four holes especially provide an amazing finish to a satisfying and memorable experience. The Restaurant which is open Wednesday to Sunday 11am until late to members and public alike offers an extensive menu to suit all tastes. A warm welcome awaits for visitors.
