The Connacht Hotel

Menu

With March comes Springtime, brighter days, and the promise of even more events and activities than we had last month. As always, there’s a great array of things happening across Galway, and this guide has you covered with lots of the information you need!

FRESH INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

March 7

As part of the Fresh International Film Festival, the Connaught Regional Final is taking place at Omniplex Galway on March 7th. Some of Ireland’s best and brightest young filmmakers will have their works screened on the day, and it’s a terrific chance for movie-lovers and budding filmmakers to experience what the next generation are already starting to film and direct.

CASH RETURNS - LIVE

March 8

Join JP Mac and Karen Martin for an evening inspired by Johnny Cash and June Carter. This pair of incredible talents will do justice to two country music legends with authentic and stirring renditions of some of Cash and Carter’s best-know hits. Everything from Walk the Line to Ring of Fire is sure to be played on the evening as you enjoy wall-to-wall hits at the Town Hall Theatre.

SIX NATIONS LIVE - IRELAND V ENGLAND

March 9

Head to the Eye Cinema, just a five-minute walk from The Connacht Hotel to watch Ireland take on England in Six Nations action. Andy Farrell’s men will look to maintain their 100 percent record this campaign as they aim to secure yet another title. Will you cheer the men in green on as they go for glory in this historic clash?

THE SECRET OF KELLS

March 10

Relive this animated classic as The Secret of Kells returns to the big screen at Pálás Cinema. This is a fascinating story that was an Oscar nominee in 2010, so you just know you’re in for a colourful and immersive treat here. It’s a little bit spooky and not for everyone (especially for some little ones), but there’s a reason it’s often called one of the best animated movies of the past 25 years.

GALWAY UNITED V SHAMROCK ROVERS

March 15

Galway United were far and away the best team in the League of Ireland First Division last season, and there are high hopes that The Tribesmen can perform to a high standard in the 2024 Premier Division. The home side will be eager to clinch a win against Shamrock Rovers, and with the Eamonn Deacy Park faithful cheering them on, there promises to be a fantastic atmosphere.

THE ST. PATRICK'S DAY FESTIVAL

March 16-18

We’re expecting a big, dramatic, and family-friendly experience with all the incredible floats, talented performers, and amazing storytellers on show throughout. This is always a fantastic time – just be sure and get in early to secure a good viewing position along the route. And remember to bring your brolly and a warm coat just in case the weather turns. Plus, there’s plenty more excitement around the city across these three magic days of fun!

AN AUDIENCE WITH LIVERPOOL LEGENDS

March 21

If you’re a Liverpool fan, you’ll absolutely love this night out at the Town Hall Theatre. If you’re an Ireland fan, there’ll be plenty to enjoy at this event, too. That’s right, Ronnie Whelan, Steve McMahon, and Ray Houghton will be coming together for an evening of shared memories, footballing highlights, and amazing sporting achievements. It promises to be a fantastic evening full of intrigue, humour, and some much-needed nostalgia.

CONNACHT RUGBY VS. LIONS

March 23

Get ready to watch Connacht Rugby in action against Lions on March 23rd at the newly named Dexcom Stadium. This United Rugby Championship fixture is sure to be a thrilling one as the home team look to get maximum points against the visitors. So, pull on your jersey, grab your scarf, and enjoy a clash of two good teams.

EASTER EGG HUNT AT BRIGIT'S GARDEN

March 31-April 1

Make the most of the Easter fun at Brigit’s Garden – and really make your Galway adventure as eggcellent as it deserves to be. This is the ideal way to enjoy family fun for the festivities, and you’re welcome to grab tickets for this so that you can all savour a cracking time with face painting, outdoor activities, and time with the Easter Bunny himself!
