Ashbourne Camogie Weekend
beat of the feet Galway

The 103rd Ashbourne Camogie Weekend will take place this Saturday February 10th and Sunday February 11th. Teams will compete for the Ashbourne, Purcell and Fr. Meachair Cups.

Semi Finals will take place on Saturday 10th in Dangan Regional Sports Grounds and Finals will be played in Ballinasloe GAA on Sunday 11th February. We are delighted to be hosting a number of the team’s here in The Connacht Hotel. The very best of luck to all of the teams taking part over the weekend.

New Bishop to join galway Diocese

This weekend see’s the new Bishop in Galway Cathedral. A large crowd which will include the President Michael D Higgins, the new Papal Nuncio to Ireland Archbishop Jude Thaddeus Okolo and the national media are expected to attend. Bishop Kelly will succeed Bishop Martin Drennan in the ceremony. His holiness Pope Francis appointed Bishop Brendan Kelly as the Bishop of Galway, Kilmacduagh and Kilfenora on December 11th a move that was welcomed by the diocesan community in the West.

This Sunday Pearse Stadium sees Galway and Mayo renew rivalries. Galway have had a superb return to the top flight of the National League with terrific win’s over Tyrone and Donegal. Mayo started with a hard fought away win against Monaghan but lost out to Kerry in Castlebar 1-15 to 2-9. As the two sides are due to meet in McHale Park on Sunday May 13th both sides will be hoping to land a psychological blow to the other with a win in the National League. Shane Walsh and Damien Comer have been on fire for Galway to date and will need to continue that form this Sunday.
