If you are looking for a different type of festival in Galway this weekend check out Astrofest 2018. The celebration of all things astronomical will take place on Saturday the 27th of January. The annual festival includes a day long series of talks, trade displays by Ireland’s largest telescope retailer, displays of photographs by some of Irelands top astrophotographer, a lunchtime workshop and much more.
The highlight of this years festival is a special showing of the amazing documentary “The Farthest” in the Eye Cinema in Galway at 7pm on Friday January 26th. This documentary has been attracting amazing reviews across the board and tell the incredible story of the Voyager Space Probe which recently left our solar system.
Emer Reynolds the films director, will be there on the night and interviewed live.

THIS WEEK IN CONNACHT RUGBY
The big sports news in the West of Ireland this week is the announcement that after seventeen seasons Connacht captain John Muldoon will retire. After more than 300 appearances with his native province, the 35-year-old will bring the curtain down on his professional career. The Portumna man made his Connacht debut in 2004 against Scottish side Border Reivers, with the highlight of his 17 years at the Sportsground leading Connacht to a historic Pro12 title two years ago.
First capped by Ireland in 2009, his third and final cap came against the All Blacks the following year when he was forced from the field of play in the 66-28 defeat with a broken arm.
The very best of luck to John with whatever the future holds for him, hopefully it will involve inspiring the next generation of Connacht stars.
