This well established Galway hotel first opened its doors in 1969 as The Galway Ryan Hotel. The hotel then consisted of a much smaller offering of 96 bedrooms a restaurant and a bar. 1984 saw the launch of the Friendly Fellows kids club, which still welcomes families today. This ensured that The Galway Ryan Hotel led the way in family getaway breaks and set a tradition at the hotel were now we see generations returning for the family friendly hotel experience.

The hotel added a leisure facility to its offering in June 1995, consisting of an indoor swimming pool and gym. Active Fitness opened January 2011, adding on a large aerobics studio, cardio fitness area and holistic treatment rooms and entered the health & fitness market.

In 2004 a large extension to the hotel was built and in March 2005 the hotel commenced trading as Days Hotel Galway with an additional 217 rooms and 25 two-bedroom apartments.

The hotel took on a new franchise in July 2009 with the Carlton Hotel Group and traded as Carlton Hotel Galway City until 2012.

The hotel rebranded in March 2013 to “The Connacht Hotel Galway” and remains under the same owner management. A wing of bedrooms were refurbished and a cocktail & lounge bar added to Bar Solo which was also renovated, a landscaped garden also added to the exterior entrance of the hotel.
